  Is it possible to use custom formatting within the flexgrid headers?

  I know I can use custom formatting in the table’s cells using the itemFormatter property (see Wijmo Explorer demo: http://demos.wijmo.com/5/Angular2/Explorer/Explorer/#/grid/ccells), but that is not what I want.

  I think that’s the only way to achieve what you are looking for. However I would like to know what type of customization that you looking for so that I can investigate this further.
