We are planning to upgrade ActiveReports 11 Library project to 18 in a new VM (Windows Server 2022 with VS2022 latest version and .net 8). We installed trail version on the server. The code upgrade seems OK but it gives the error when trying to use “View Designer”. How can we fix the error to show the pdf report layout normally?

    Hi David,

The error ‘Timed out while connecting to a named pipe’ is a generic .NET error that occurs when the .NET version that the project is targeting is not installed on the system.

Could you please check if you are getting the following warning in the solution explorer or not: ‘This Project is targeting a version of .NET which is not installed’.

If yes, then please try out the suggestion provided in the following link:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/849109/timed-out-while-connecting-to-named-pipe.html.

As you are targeting .NET 8 please make sure .NET 8 is installed on your Windows Server 2022 machine.

However, if this does not resolve the issue please provide a sample application depicting the problem so that we may replicate the same at our end, debug it, and provide a solution for the issue accordingly.

Please Note: As this is the forum for ComponentOne if the issue persists please create a new case for this query (as this is related to ActiveReports.NET).

You can post your query in ActiveReports Forum here: https://www.grapecity.com/forums/ar-dev or raise a Support Ticket with ‘Product’ selected as “ActiveReports”.

    Regards,

    Anand
