Introducing the AI Assistant

You can now use the ActiveReportsJS AI Assistant when building reports, whether you’re working in the Standalone Report Designer or the web-based Report Designer component embedded in a web application.

The Explore feature allows users to build table, tablix, and chart visualizations using AI instead of relying solely on the built-in static algorithm. To get started, simply click Explore on a data set to get started with the configuration:

If the AI Assistant is not configured, the designer will fall back to the built-in instant visuals, which will analyze the data and suggest chart, table, and tablix visualizations. If the AI Assistant is configured, the designer sends the data set’s field names and types, but never the underlying data, to the configured AI provider, and shows a cancellable progress panel while the visualizations are generated:

If the request to the AI provider fails, the designer asks whether to retry or fall back on instant visuals instead:

Once the visualizations are ready, they appear as a set of cards, each with a short description of what it shows:

Multivalue Parameter Enhancements

Multivalue parameters gain two new options. Enable Empty Array allows a multivalue parameter to be submitted with no values selected, rather than always requiring at least one. Select All Value sets the literal value passed to the parameter when a user picks (all) in the parameter panel, so you can hand a query a single sentinel value like * instead of every individual value in the list. Report Designer API Enhancements

The report designer component now allows you to set the default paper size for newly created reports. You can use a standard paper size or a custom one. Check the designer configuration documentation for more details.
