Scott Shorter
Scott Shorter 1971-2011. Here at GrapeCity we lost a friend an co-worker this week. He will be missed by all of us here at GrapeCity as well as by the software developer community. I have known Scott for a few years. Scott, Program Manager for FarPoint/GrapeCity Spread, built relationships with developers for many, many years. Scott was also responsible for hand delivering my resume to GrapeCity after we hooked up at the Fort Lauderdale code camp not even a year ago, for which I am very grateful. I have traveled to shows with him this year to Chattanooga, Atlanta, Silicon Valley and Orlando and split a room at a few of them. If travel included a Sunday, he would get up early and find a local church and attend weekly service. That’s the kind of person he was. He was about as wholesome as you can get. I would always joke with him that I was a bad influence on him, when in actuality, he was a good influence on me. I have posted the photos from these shows of Scott on Facebook here. If you have photos of Scott, feel free to add to this album. One of my fondest memories of Scott was at Devlink in Chattanooga. He calls me on his cell after the event saying he is lost. As it turns out, he did his exercise by going for a long walk in a park along the river by our hotel after the event. I had to go and pick him up with the rental car because he could not find his way back again!
Roger Hobbs, one of our very talented videos specialists compiled a really nice video tribute to our friend and colleague, Scott Shorter, on GVTV:

The video includes a few bloopers that make us all laugh as we remember Scott in a way that he would want us to remember him… a very cheerful, unselfish, smart and talented individual, father and husband with a heart of gold.
Scott was a very young 40 years old and leaves behind his wife Jenny and three young children, Ryan, Rebekah, and Danielle. If you are interested in making a donation to help his family during this difficult time, please feel free to make a contribution to the Shorter children.
