Raising Cane with Hub City .NET UG

Last week I had the priviledge to speak to the Hub City .NET User Group. The group's spiritual leader Keth Elder was in Detroit on business, and according to local legend this means everything runs smoothly and everyone gets to bed at a decent hour. Under the skilled leadership of Anson "The Pirate" Smith, that was indeed the case. After a nice lunch in Birmngham with Mike Crump, I rolled into Hattiesburg the night before the meeting. Anson, Noby, Christian, Michelle and I hit Leatha's Barbecue Inn, then the Keg and Barrel, where I was introduced to Lazy Magnolia's Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale. The "Nuts and Berries" combination (layered with Abita's Purple Haze) was outstanding for a hot Southern evening, and I wish I could find this concoction back home. I had the entire next day to update my "Intro to WebMatrix" into "WebMatrix Onramp", adding additional corny humor and a new demo (slides and demo to be posted soon). Thank you to all who laughed on cue. We sailed through the WebMatrix stack, how to create web sites, web pages and SQL Server CE databases, helpers, Razor and all sorts of tangentially related things. During the meeting, we dined on another Hattiesburg delicacy--Raising Cane's chicken fingers, fries, toast, lemonade and sweet tea. The Hub City group makes their speakers work for their time--not only did Component One sponsor the food, but I had to pick it up myself on my way to the meeting! After the meeting the Leatha's group, plus Stringer, Sam, Mark, Andy, Chase and Michael were back at K&B for a few more Nuts and Berries and swapping of stories (Noby is a movie star!). I had a great time meeting an awesome group of people, and I hope I brought as much to y'all as all y'all did me. Thanks to everyone who came out, and I look forward to coming back again soon.
