Continuing from our previous topic on Connecting the Designer to the Server, we have the stand-alone report designer open, and we are logged in as Jennifer. Now we'll open the Employee Directory report that she has access to, and show you how to edit it. For a fast and visible change, we'll change the color of the header row in the table.
Open a report definition file
Under Choose a report, double-click the Quick Start category, then HR. Now select the Employee Directory report that Jennifer can edit, and click the Open button.
Note: When you open a report definition file, if you select the Open Revision option from the Open button, a list of revisions displays from which you can specify a past version of the report to re-edit.
Edit the report
The report definition file opens and displays in the designer like this. Click the table and select the header row by clicking the UI to the left of the row. In the Properties, drop down the BackgroundColor property and select a different color. Note: You can also change cells individually, or instead of the property window, change the Background Color in the toolbar.
Confirm your changes
Now we'll see how the report looks with the changes we made. To view the report, click the Preview tab at the bottom of the designer. (You can also use the Report menu.) The report displays like this. To return to the Designer view, click the Designer tab at the bottom of the designer or use the Report menu.
Save to ActiveReports Server
Now we save our modifications on ActiveReports server. From the File menu, select Save to Server. When the Save report to server dialog displays, check the destination folder, enter comments for the revision history, and click the Save button. When the Save report to server dialog closes, the update of the report definition file on ActiveReports Server is complete.
