Utah Code Camp–September 25, 2010

I was asked to come and present at the Utah Code Camp this past weekend, and of course I said "yes". This was the furthest Code Camp I had attended and I had a great time. The organizers, Craig Bernston, Pat Wright, Nathan Zaugg, and Kerry Dew did a fantastic job of assembling a great crew of speakers, including one of my favorites, David Starr, presented the keynote, "Modern Software Development, the State of the Craft", talking on the craft of software and where we are today.

I presented "MVC and the Entity Framework" to a group of 30. With a funky video cable that didn't want to stay in place, a room lights which turned off and on without any apparent reason, the presentation went pretty well. I had a lot of great questions, as the majority of the group hadn't much experience with either MVC or EF. There was one attendee (I didn't get his name), who had attended Utah Code Camp last year, was so excited by the experience, that he brought his wife to this event. Ah..true geek love. At the end of the day was the usual raffle and I was asked to draw the ticket for the C1 Studio license. Wouldn't you know it, I drew my own ticket. Somewhat embarrassing but it did cause a laugh. I helped the actual winner decide which license he wanted and he selected Studio for Silverlight.

And good old organized me, I managed to leave my camera battery in the charger at home, so all I had was my cell phone. After the event I headed up into Big Cottonwood Canyon to take some pictures of the fall colors.
