February 2011 Speaking

After a relatively slow January, my travel and speaking calendar is picking up again, leading into a crazy March and April. Here’s where I’ll be for the rest of the month:

South Florida Code Camp, Feb 12

I’ll be presenting “Using ASP.NET Authentication in Silverlight Applications”:

It's a fair bet that most applications require a membership repository of some sort. With .NET 2.0, Microsoft shipped the ASP.NET Authentication Provider, which made it very easy to add a full-featured membership repository to ASP.NET applications. This same authentication provider can be used in Silverlight applications without a lot of work. New project templates released with Silverlight 4 and RIA Services make this provider even easier to work with. In this session, we'll review the capabilities of this provider and see how we implement and extend it with Silverlight 4 applications.

We’re also sponsoring this event, so we’ll have a table in the main area. Stop by and see us, we’ll have swag and would love to show you some of the really cool new stuff we have (like the latest beta of our OLAP for Silverlight—my favorite new product). Four licenses of our award winning Studio Enterprise will be part of the main raffle, and we’ll have one more to give away to the people who stop by our table.

Philly .NET User Group, Feb 16

This is their Night of Silverlight, and I’ll be presenting Silverlight 101:

I am a long time web developer (11 years professionally, 16 if you count doing so in other jobs), so I have a great deal of experience in Classic ASP and ASP.NET. When I started with ComponentOne in August 2010, I had done very little Silverlight work, I really like Silverlight, but I’m a long way off from rocking XAML. I still find myself resorting to code behind. I’d put my Silverlight skills at about the 102 level. In this talk, we’ll cover many of the basics of Silverlight 4.0, and look at how Blend and Visual Studio work together to build Silverlight Applications. I'll try and demystify XAML and see how to add animation to our applications. Since Silverlight is a mix of server and client side development, traditional data access methods don't apply, so we'll see how to connect to and display data Finally, we'll take a look at a number of great resources to learn more about Silverlight.

MSDN Webinar, Feb 24

My first MSDN webcast, it’s back to

In addition to my travel, ComponentOne will be speaking/presenting/attending at SPTechCon and STC Houston.
