April is shaping up to be another busy month for travel, here’s where I’ll be and what I’ll be talking about:

Philly Code Camp 2011.1, April 9

No ComponentOne table this time, it’s fun to be an attendee. We’re looking forward to geeking out like normal people this time, but we’ll probably be carrying some swag, so stop and chat with us. I’m presenting one talk this time:

Using ASP.NET Authentication in Silverlight Applications

It's a fair bet that most applications require a membership repository of some sort. With .NET 2.0, Microsoft shipped the ASP.NET Authentication Provider, which made it very easy to add a full-featured membership repository to ASP.NET applications. This same authentication provider can be used in Silverlight applications without a lot of work. In this session, we'll review the capabilities of this provider and see how we can use it with Silverlight applications.

Steve Basl is also presenting, with a slightly updated Silverlight 101 talk. Silverlight is HOT, and this talk always packs the room.

Silverlight 101: Back to the Basics

Want to learn Silverlight? Join me as I take you through the basics of developing a Silverlight application. We'll focus on the capabilities of Silverlight 4.0, but also touch on Silverlight before it's latest release.
Discover ways to layout your Silverlight application, connect to data, and design. We'll also touch on what's required to set up a development environment, the steps necessary for application development, and concluding with Silverlight resource references.

I’m flying straight from Philly to vacation with my family. Yep, I’m spending time with my family…travelling. I was originally scheduled for New York City XAML, and I apologize for changing dates, looks like I’ll be in NYC in May.

MDSM Monthly Meeting, April 19

I’ll be travelling to Kalamazoo, MI to visit the Microsoft Developers of Southwest Michigan right after I return from vacation. If my palmistry is correct, they’re somewhere around where my head line ends (remember to look at your right palm). I’m presenting a new talk:

jQuery Onramp

If 50,000,000 Elvis fans can't be wrong, then 19,000,000 websites are pretty close to a sure thing. Since its release in 2006, jQuery has gained a tremendous following--so much so that in 2008, Microsoft made the decision to replace its then 20-month old ASP.NET Ajax framework with jQuery for all future client side programming libraries. In this session, we'll review some JavaScript fundamentals to see how jQuery is built and how to use jQuery. We'll then spin up a simple sample application and see what jQuery can do for our applications. Whether you develop in WebForms, MVC or PHP, there's something in this session to be learned.

Rocking WebForms

Reports of WebForms' demise are very premature; in fact, WebForms still rock! And by adding just a little jQuery UI magic, they can rock even more. Whether you're beginning a new WebForms application, or maintaining an existing one, it's very easy to add a little UI razzle-dazzle that can both make your code cleaner and the application more user friendly. In this session, we'll look at what jQuery is, and what it can do for our WebForms applications. If you've used the ASP.NET Ajax Toolkit in your applications, you'll want to see what is replacing it.
