Adventures in Angular: Replacing Silverlight with Wijmo and Angular with Chris Bannon and Bernardo Castilho
Earlier in the month two of my colleagues, Bernardo and Chris were guests on Adventures in Angular. Adventures in Angular is a weekly show dedicated to the AngularJS framework. The co-hosts for the episode titled, “Replacing Silverlight with Wijmo and Angular with Chris Bannon and Bernardo Castilho,” which aired on 1/08/2014, included Joe Eames, Charles Max Wood and John Papa. I had an opportunity to listen in while they recorded the podcast and was amazed how these gentlemen were able to communicate so comfortably and clearly on the technical subject matter. Plus, they even enjoyed some humor along the way; I didn’t know Chris was even funny. :) For Silverlight developers looking for a path into HTML5 and JavaScript, the podcast shed light on how one would migrate an application away from Silverlight and into HTML5/JavaScript. Bernardo also shared with the hosts that he had written a whitepaper that walks through, step-by-step, porting the ViewModel and the View into HTML5 from a simple Silverlight application. Chris pointed out that Wijmo, a set of JavaScript controls, is not limited to Silverlight developers coming to HTML5 and JavaScript. He further explained that Wijmo provides comprehensive data grids, charts and other controls that take a great deal of time to develop if you were to do it yourself. Plus, Wijmo ships with Angular directives, another big time saver. The podcast includes some great Q&A, further insight into collection view, confirms that Wijmo controls are dependency free, and offers details on an available performance benchmark. There are likely many other parts of the podcast that will interest you and rather than paraphrase the entire episode, listen for yourself. You will walk away with greater knowledge and possibly ideas for your next development project. We want to hear what you think, so share your comments with us after you have listened.
