Keyboard Navigation, Focus, and Selection

Scheduler supports keyboard navigation for headers, cells, and event items. Use the built-in focus and selection behavior for keyboard workflows; use hit testing when a pointer command must identify a Scheduler target.

Navigate with the keyboard

Key or action

Result

Tab

Header -> Cell -> Item -> outside Scheduler

Shift+Tab

Reverse order: outside Scheduler -> Item -> Cell -> Header

Click a Cell or Item

Makes that element the active focus target

Stages that are not present are skipped.

When a cell has focus, the arrow keys move to the visually adjacent cell. Navigation follows the rendered cell layout regardless of the view type or whether the time axis is on rows or columns.

Navigate event items

Layout

Within current section

Across sections

Timed, hour axis on columns

Left/Right moves between items in the current section

Up/Down moves to the previous or next section that contains items and focuses its first item

Timed, hour axis on rows

Up/Down moves between items in the current section

Left/Right moves to the previous or next section that contains items and focuses its first item

Summary

Up/Down moves between items in the current cell in rendered order. Moving past the first or last item focuses the nearest cell in the same column that contains items.

Left/Right moves to the previous or next cell in the same row that contains items. The target item uses the same rendered index when available; otherwise the last item in that cell is focused.

Items are visited in rendered order. If no target exists, focus remains on the current item.

Focus after CRUD operations

Operation

Focus target after completion

Cancel editor

Cell or item that opened the editor

Save new event

Newly rendered item

Save existing event

Edited item, if still available

Delete event

Previous item in the section; next item if the deleted item was first. If the section has no items left, focus moves to the first cell.

New event falls outside the current view after saving

Cell that was used to create the event

Edited event is no longer available after saving

Same fallback as deleting an event

Select cells

Selection applies to cells, not event items.

Action

Selection behavior

Click a cell

Starts a new single-cell selection

Shift+Click

Extends from the active anchor when resource context matches

Drag across cells

Selects cells after the drag threshold is reached

Release pointer

Ends drag selection and focuses the last selected cell

Pointer reaches viewport edge

Scheduler scrolls and continues extending the selection

Shift+Arrow

Extends selection while moving the cell focus target

Arrow without Shift

Starts a new single-cell selection

A selected range contains only cells that use the same resources.

Selection and context menus

Opening a context menu inside the current selection preserves the selected range. Shift+Right-click can extend the selection to a target cell in the same resource. Opening the menu outside the current selection starts a new selection at that cell.
