ComponentOne WinForms Edition provides predefined project and item templates for creating WinForms applications in Visual Studio.
These templates are installed with WinForms Edition and create ready-to-build projects with the required references, licensing, themes, and sample UI already configured. This reduces manual setup and helps developers focus on application logic.
Templates are available for:
.NET Framework
.NET
C#
Visual Basic
Compared to standard Visual Studio templates, ComponentOne templates automatically:
Add required WinForms Edition references and NuGet packages
Add a valid Licensing.licx file
Configure sample controls and layouts
Apply default themes
Create runnable starter applications
Templates are available for both .NET Framework and .NET applications.

Project and item templates are registered automatically after installing WinForms Edition through the ComponentOne Studio installer.
The following steps demonstrate how to create a WinForms project using ComponentOne templates.
Open Visual Studio.
Select File > New > Project.
In the “Create a new project” dialog, search for C1 or ComponentOne.
Select the required project template.
Select the target framework.

Configure the project name and location.
Select Create.
After project creation, Visual Studio restores required NuGet packages automatically and opens the generated application.

For .NET Framework projects, Visual Studio may require an initial build before forms can be opened in the designer because packages must be restored first.
For .NET projects, Visual Studio restores packages automatically during project creation and opens the generated form after restore completes.
Item templates appear under C# Items or Common Items for Visual Basic. When a C1Ribbon Form item is added, Visual Studio adds the required references if they are not already present.
Visual Studio may display a trust warning when adding item templates, depending on local template security settings.

Limitation | Description | |
|---|---|---|
.NET Framework designer restore requirement | Forms may require an initial build before opening in the designer | |
Visual Studio template warnings | Item templates may trigger trust warnings | |
.NET project preview limitation | Visual Studio does not display preview images for .NET templates | |
