License Old Products with New Serial Key
In This Topic
Purchasing a new license entitles you to any previous version of the same product. This is supported with a few extra steps you must perform.
- When purchasing or renewing a new license for a current product, you will get a serial key following the new licensing format.
- You must first activate the new license using the MESCIUS License Manager on their development machine. For more information, see Activating a Serial Key.
- You must then run the C1LicenseActivation utility. Upon launch, the utility will discover the new license and allow them to generate and install old-style keys to their development machine. This will allow older versions of controls to be licensed properly since they only know how to recognize old-style keys. For more information, see Using the C1LicenseActivation Tool.
Notes:
- You must make sure you use the latest version of C1LicenseActivation (version 2020 v2 or later), otherwise it won't know how to discover the valid new license.
- Current product means one that is still in active development (WinForms, WPF, UWP, Xamarin, ASP.NET MVC, and Blazor)
- For legacy products such as Active X, WinRT XAML, Silverlight, and LightSwitch, see Licensing ActiveX and Legacy Products topic.
- To deactivate a machine with the old license, you must first deactivate the new license through GrapeCity License Manager and then launch the C1LicenseActivation.exe tool. This will automatically deactivate any old-style keys that were associated with the new keys.
