Alligator overlay is a method that combines moving averages with fractal geometry and nonlinear dynamics. It consists of three lines, plotted on a financial chart, aptly represented by jaw, teeth, and lips of an alligator. It is easy to use and can help in identifying the trade setups based on the changing distance between the lines resembling the alligator opening or closing the mouth.
The alligator overlay includes the following three Simple Moving Averages.
To use alligator overlay in FinancialChart, you need to create an instance of the Alligator class and add it as the series to the financial chart to render the alligator overlay. The Alligator class allows you to modify period for each of the plotting lines, for example, alligator jaw has a default period of 13 days, however, you can modify the period value for alligator jaw using the JawPeriod property. Similarly, you can use the TeethPeriod and LipsPeriod property to modify the period values for the alligator teeth and alligator lips. Also, it provides styling properties for each of the three simple moving averages, i.e. JawLineStyle, TeethLineStyle, and LipsLineStyle.
The following example considers stock data for a company Box Inc. over a period of time and plots alligator overlay on the same financial chart, as shown in the image above. The example uses data from a JSON file, and DataService.cs class is created to access the JSON file.
