# VALUE

This function converts a text string that is a number to a numeric value.

## Syntax

`VALUE(text)`

## Arguments

This function has these arguments:

| Argument | Description |
| -------- | ----------- |
| *text* | [Required] Number in quotation marks or a reference to a cell with the text. |

## Remarks

The text can be in number, date, or time format. If the text is not in the correct format, a #VALUE! error is returned.

## Examples

`VALUE("$9,000")`gives the result 9000
