# AREAS

This function returns the number of areas in the specified reference.

## Syntax

`AREAS(reference)`

## Arguments

[Required] Specify the cell reference for the argument.

## Remarks

In this function, single argument can refer to multiple areas. To do so, extra set of parentheses is used.

## Examples

`AREAS(B7:D9)` gives the result 1
`AREAS((B2:D4,E5,F6:I9))` gives the result 3
