# PDF Linearization

## Content

C1Pdf supports PDF linearization to structure a PDF so that compatible PDF viewers can begin displaying the first page before the complete file has loaded. PDF linearization is commonly associated with Fast Web View.
Set the **UseLinearized** property of [C1PdfDocument](/componentone/api/win/online-pdf/dotnet-framework-api/C1.C1Pdf.4.8/C1.C1Pdf.C1PdfDocument.html) to `true` to enable linearization. The property is disabled by default.
Linearization applies to documents containing five or more pages. It is recommended primarily for documents containing 10 or more pages.

## Enable PDF Linearization

The following example enables linearization before saving the PDF document.

```csharp
var pdf = new C1PdfDocument
{
    UseLinearized = true
};
// Add pages and content.
pdf.Save("Report.pdf");
```

>type=note
> **Note:** Documents containing fewer than five pages are saved without linearization

## File Caching for Large Documents

For documents containing a large number of pages, set [UseFileCaching](/componentone/api/win/online-pdf/dotnet-framework-api/C1.C1Pdf.4.8/C1.C1Pdf.C1PdfDocumentBase.UseFileCaching.html) to `true` to use temporary disk files and reduce memory usage during PDF generation.

```csharp
var pdf = new C1PdfDocument
{
    UseLinearized = true,
    UseFileCaching = true
};
// Add pages and content.
pdf.Save("Report.pdf");
```

## PDF/A Behavior

Linearization adds a PDF/A manifest to the generated PDF. The file does not receive a PDF/A conformance level through the [ConformanceLevel](/componentone/api/win/online-pdf/dotnet-framework-api/C1.C1Pdf.4.8/C1.C1Pdf.C1PdfDocumentBase.ConformanceLevel.html) setting. This behavior is independent of the five-page minimum required for linearization.
