# ComponentOne Data Wizard Overview

**ComponentOne Data Wizard** is a Visual Studio extension for WinForms projects. It connects to data sources, builds Data Views through the Query Builder, and generates application data models, including Entity Framework scaffolding. Data Wizard is a successor to the Visual Studio Data Sources designer.
Data Wizard follows three steps:

1. Connect to a database, file, or service.
2. Create a Data View by selecting and filtering the required data.
3. Bind the Data View to a WinForms control.

Data Wizard writes the connection string to the project App.config file and generates the data access and binding code.
