# Licensing Overview

## Content

ComponentOne uses a **subscription-based licensing model** similar to products such as Microsoft Office and Visual Studio Professional. The same licensing model applies across all supported .NET platforms.

**ComponentOne Licensing Model**
When you install any ComponentOne product, an **evaluation (trial) license** is installed automatically.

* The evaluation license allows you to develop with the ComponentOne controls for **30 days**
* All product features are available during the evaluation period.

For more information, see [Evaluation License](/componentone/docs/license/online-license/evaluation-license).

**Purchasing and Activating a License**
When you purchase a ComponentOne product, you receive a **serial key.**
For most licensing scenarios, activating the serial key is all that is required to begin development. Once activated, the license is applied automatically during development and build time.
For details about activation behavior, machine limits, and build scenarios, see [Licensing Process](/componentone/docs/license/online-license/c1-licensing-process).

**Subscription Entitlements**
A ComponentOne subscription provides the following benefits for one year from the purchase or renewal date:

* Access to **product updates,** including bug fixes and new features
* Access to **all previously released versions** of the licensed product

After the subscription period ends:

* You may **no longer develop or build** applications that contain ComponentOne components
* You may continue to **distribute applications** that were built during an active subscription period

For more information about subscription terms and common scenarios, see [Licensing FAQ](https://developer.mescius.com/componentone/licensing)

**License Terms and Conditions**
Use of ComponentOne products is governed by MESCIUS software End-User License Agreement (EULA).
For full terms and conditions, see [End User Licensed Agreement](https://developer.mescius.com/legal/eula)
